In the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, the Indian team comprises of a young batting sensation, Smriti Mandhana. Coming from a cricketing background, she has been in remarkable form in the tournament at the opening position. At 20, she is one of the youngest player featuring in the team but has won the trust of the captain, Mithali Raj.

Smriti got a dream start at World Cup debut scoring 90 runs off 73 balls in India’s first match against England. The next match against West Indies brought more thrill as the left-hander smashed her second ODI century. She made 106 runs off just 108 balls, smashing  13 boundaries and two huge sixes.

Smriti belongs to a family which has a cricketing background. Her father played at the district level while her brother featured in the Under-16 state team of Maharashtra. She was selected in the Under-15 team of Maharashtra at the tender age of nine and in the Under-19 state team at the age of eleven and grabbed the eyeballs when she becoming the first Indian woman to score a double-hundred during a West Zone Under-19 50-over match against Gujarat.

Her domestic performances didn’t go waste as she made her ODI debut in April 2013 against Bangladesh. made her ODI debut in April 2013 against Bangladesh but had to wait for her Test debut until 2014. Currently, she has made 897 runs in 25 ODIs and 424 runs in 27 T20s.
