The Sri Lanka team has done the impossible, as they won an ODI series against India after a long wait of 27 years.

Sri Lanka last won an ODI series against India in 1997 at home.

Since then, 13 times both nations have played series against each other.

But India has always overpowered the Sri Lankan team and won the series.

The new generation’s team efforts pull off the defeats as they finally mark their first ODI victory since 1997.

India was on the tour of Sri Lanka, which consisted of 3 T-20I and 3 ODI matches.

They won the T-20I series as the first match of the ODI series was drawn.

In the second match, the Sri Lanka bowlers performed outstandingly, didn’t let India chase the total, and won the match.

Match Details

The third and final ODI was going to be played in Colombo.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first.

Sri Lanka Innings

Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando opened the innings for them.

They both started great and have been forming an outstanding partnership since the start.

Avishka soon also completed his half-century and kept on going.

Axar Patel broke their partnership as he took the wicket of Pathum.

Kusal came in to bat as he and Avishka were building an important partnership.

Riyan Parag was called into action as he took the wicket of Avishka.

Kusal completed his half-century with the knocks of the top three batsmen.

They reached a total of 248/7, especially with the help of 96 runs by Fernando.

India Innings

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India.

Rohit started to hit boundaries as Shubman lost his wicket.

Virat came in to bat, and Rohit also departed soon by playing a quick knock.

One by one, the batsmen of the Indian team were losing their wickets.

Dunith Wellalage was once again looking unplayable, as he was constantly taking wickets.

Going on, Sri Lanka took all the wickets of the Indian team at a score of just 138 runs.

Dunith took a haul of five wickets, while Maheesh and Jeffrey took two wickets each.

India lost the match by 110 runs as Sri Lanka won the match and the series.

The long wait of 27 years came to an end as Sri Lanka lifted the trophy of an ODI series against India.
