Kidambi Srikanth

Chen Long, who has always defeated Indians, was expecting a winning match against Kidambi in the final of the Australian Open, but his game in the finals was something that Chen couldn’t expect.  Chen has recently knocked out Srikanth in the Sudirman Cup in May. However, he didn’t face the same Srikanth Kidambi in the finals. His game destroyed all hopes of the Chinese player as he claimed his second successive Superseries title.

According to his co-player from India, HS Prannoy, Srikanth’s nature is attacking and he did the same in the finals. he said, “Srikanth is a kind of a player who is very attacking, offensive from the back of the court. It is really tough to defend his smashes and the strokes coming from the backcourt. So, I feel it is the biggest strength of the game. There wasn’t going to be a surprise about Srikanth’s style of play since the duo met at the Gold Coast event, but it was his confidence which actually made the difference.”

Srikanth said about the game that he was challenging himself to long last, rather that challenging the opponent and that helped him to win the game.

The first game seemed to be going both sides until Srikanth made some extra efforts in the end to grab it. However, in the second game, he rarely made a mistake eventually making him the champion.

Srikanth and Sai Praneeth will now move on to play the World Championship which is to be held in August.
