The former captain of the Indian team, the fearless captain who created a legacy of passion and intensity, has retired from the longest format of cricket.

Debut

Virat Kohli was the captain who led the 2008 U-19 India World Cup team towards victory and came into the limelight from there.

In the year 2011, he made his Test debut against the West Indies and got the 269th Test cap.

Since then, he has never looked back and has always been the most important player for the Indian team.

In total, Virat Kohli played 123 matches for the Indian team, scoring a total of 9,230 runs, which includes 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, with the top score of 254 runs.

Career

Virat’s career was much more than just the runs he scored and the centuries he hit against the best teams in the world.

He was a great captain, a fearless one who took the Indian team to new heights.

In the year 2018-2019, he led the nation towards the first-ever Test series win against the almighty Australia, taking the team to the top of the ICC Test Rankings.

Under his leadership, India played 68 test matches in total, winning 40 of them, a record that is unmatched by any other Indian captain.

King Kohli also holds the record for the most double centuries by an Indian player.

The most double centuries in two consecutive years were 3 in the years 2016-2017.

Apart from that, he peaked the ICC Men’s Test Ratings for an Indian player at 937 points in 2018.

As he bids farewell to the test format, the fans and former players react to his decision, and tributes are pouring in for the player who redefined modern test batting in India.

BCCI requests that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to be present at the first test match against England for the GUARD OF HONOUR. ❤️
