The US Open singles winner will receive $53.5 million as prize money this year. The winners will receive $850,000 less than last year’s prize money, with first-round prize money increasing.

2020 first-round prize money will jump 5% to $61,000 from $58,000, as stated nu the Unites States Tennis Association on Wednesday.

Last year’s prize money was $57 million, the richest in the tournament’s history.

Singles winners will receive $3 million. They had received $3.85 million in 2019. Runners-up will receive $1.5 million, down from $1.9 million from 2019. Semi-finalists and quarter-finalists will also see their winnings dip.

“The prize money distribution for the 2020 U.S. Open is the result of close collaboration between the USTA, WTA and ATP, and represents a commitment to supporting players and their financial well-being during an unprecedented time,” USTA CEO Mike Dowse said in a statement.

The USTA is donating $6.6 million in monetary relief to players whose earnings have declined after and because of the global viral outbreak.
