Vikas Gowda

Discuss thrower from India, Vikas Gowda can be called a true hero and patriot. Winning a silver medal for the country despite being in pain is no small thing and requires great courage. Still, Vikas did it three years ago in the Asian Games in Incheon. Next year in the Asian Athletics Championship at Wuhan, he grabbed gold for India.

But the hard work of this player was at stake when the news came that he may not be allowed to compete with the Asians. When asked about this matter, Deputy National coach Radhakrishnan giving a positive sign for the player said, “Vikas will be taking part. The series of incidents must have been very demoralising for Vikas.”  AFI secretary C.K. Valson also indicated that Vikas could get the green flag to compete after all.

AFI secretary C.K. Valson was also in support of Vikas taking part in the tournament and said,“We have sent Vikas’ case to the selectors, most probably he will be in.”

The discuss thrower is one of the finest in the country and is a  Commonwealth Games champion, a two-time Asian Championships gold medallist, was in the top 10 at the last three World Championships and at the 2012 London Olympics finished a creditable eighth.

Last month, Vikas threw 62.35m at a meet in Chula Vista in the US last month which makes one of the top three Asians in the world list this year with only Iran’s Asian record-holder Ehsan Hadadi (62.64m) and Malaysia’s Mohammed Irfan (62.5) above him.

Vikas had knee and shoulder injuries last year due to which he was not able to perform well at Rio Olympics.
