Online health and wellness portal AyurUniverse has raised ₹6.86 crores ($1 million) from Air Deccan investor, the Ladhani family. This is the second round of funding by the Ladhani family. The fund raised will be used for the development of AI and VR technology to enhance customer experience.

AyurUniverse was founded in 2016 by Vijay Kumar Karai, along with Rekha Vijay Kumar and Venkat Rao. It provides a comprehensive wellness portal integrating various Indian wellness systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Meditation, Siddha, Kalari, Marma Chikitsa, on a single platform.

It provides online consultation to its customers from a team of experienced doctors and yoga experts. The platform also provides over 750 wellness packages from 150 wellness centres offering a wide range of therapies from across the country. It uses artificial intelligence to give its users unbiased ratings of the wellness centres.

AyurUniverse claims to a customer base across 190 countries with its wellness centres based in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, among others.

“Indian Wellness such as Ayurveda and Yoga have immense potential in India and the rest of the world. However, the lack of credible marketing platforms have diluted and restricted the growth of these traditional wellness systems. AyurUniverse with its technology-driven platform and customer-centric approach, specifically addresses this issue and is uniquely positioned to promote Ayurveda and Yoga and disrupt the hegemony that western travel agents have over the holistic wellness market”, said S N Ladhani.

As per Vijay Kumar Karai, India’s wellness industry is currently pegged at $2.54 billion, which is expected to double by 2020. With the emerging global middle class increasing incomes and a growing interest in travel and health, the industry is ripe with opportunities.

According to the Global Wellness Institute, wellness economy, consisting of 10 diverse sectors was estimated to be worth $3.7 trillion in 2015 and growing at 10% CAGR.

Other startups focused on the health and wellness domain providing competition to AyurUniverse include Welcomecure, Brahm Ayurved, among others.
