Ashish Hemrajani’s BookMyShow recently announced their acquisition of Mumbai-based local food and restaurant recommendation engine Burrp. The Network18 divestment has been made to Foodfesta Wellcare Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of BigTree Entertainment Pvt. Ltd which owns and operates BookMyShow. The financials of this deal were not yet disclosed. However, this development is considered a big move in Indian FoodTech industry, which has a number of players including Swiggy, Zomato among others.

After the acquisition, key assets and intellectual properties of Burrp will be transferred to BookMyShow, including employees and existing restaurant partnerships. Burrp is India’s oldest food tech company which helps people in discover eating joints around them. Currently, they have over 60,000 restaurants on their list in across 14 cities.

Apart from this, BookMyShow has a partnership with more than 2100 food retail brands and includes all local city food joints to popular national chains across the country.
