Swiggy, a food delivery startup, has announced the appointment of former Olam International executive Rahul Bothra as its first chief financial officer (CFO).

The news comes at a time when it seems that the company is looking to make its leadership team stronger as it aims to strengthen its position in the competitive food delivery market in India.

Rahul Bothra was working with agri-business company Olam International in Singapore and Brazil. He has over 15 years of experience in senior finance-based roles at Olam and Britannia. He will be helping to strengthen Swiggy’s balance sheet as it looks to scale its business beyond just delivery.

Apart from this, the startup is also said to be in final stage of hiring senior executives to take on the role of chief operating officer. The COO will look after the overall business along with leading the company’s cloud kitchen business.

New appointments with the senior leadership roles are expected to close in the next couple of weeks, according to people familiar with the matter.

Swiggy is the latest amongst a slew of startups which are now looking to professionalize and strengthen its top management with appointment of experienced people.

The Bangalore-based startup was founded three years ago by Nandan Reddy, Rahul Jaimini, Sriharsha Majety. It claism to be providing a complete food ordering and delivery solution from the best neighborhood restaurants to the urban foodie. The company says that its primary focus is on customer experience.

Earlier this year, Swiggy raised around ₹500 crore in a new funding round from Naspers, Accel India, SAIF Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, Harmony Partners and Norwest Partners as the company aims to take on its rival Zomato.
