Yebhi Co-Founder and former VP of Paytm Danish Ahmed’s medical tourism startup Hospals raises around ₹10 crore ($1.5 million) in a round led by Japan’s Spiral Ventures and Venture Catalysts.
The funds raised will be used to expand operations across India, Middle East, and North Africa.
Hospals was founded by Ahmed, along with Al Shifa Healthcare Services founder Obaidullah Junaid and Alok Kumar Singh, COO of Al Shifa, in 2018. Incubated by Technology 9 Labs, a startup studio funded by Spiral Ventures, Hospals offers end to end hospital services to medical tourists in India.
The startup offers assistance to medical tourists by providing services like recommending hospitals and doctors, appointments with doctors, post-treatment follow-ups, visa assistance, along with other accommodation and travel needs.
Talking about the investment, Yasuhiro Seo, partner at Spiral Ventures, said, “With a multilingual, tailored mobile-technology based platform, Hospals has successfully created a solution which addresses the pain points in the healthcare ecosystem. Japanese corporates are extremely bullish to partner with healthcare companies in India and Spiral Ventures can facilitate possible partnerships.”
With 200 monthly medical tourists and more than 6,000 patients from 14 countries, the startup has expanded its services to Commonwealth countries.
Other healthtech startups catering to various domains in India include SigTuple, Netmeds, PharmEasy, Lybrate, Practo, and Portea Medical, among many others.
Earlier this month, it was reported that healthtech startup Niramai raised ₹50 crore in funding from Pi Ventures, Binny Bansal, Axilor Ventures, and Ankur Capital.
