IIT Delhi

Last year, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) had imposed ban on around 30 startups, restricting them from campus placements in the institute.

Now, as per the reports, IITs have now decided to revoke ban on those startups. At a recent meeting of the All-India Placement Committee (AIPC) of IITs held in Kanpur, they decided to lift ban.

Zomato, which is one of the leading food-tech startups from India, now operating in over 24 countries, was also banned for two years. But now, the two-year ban has also been revoked.

Earlier, IIT had imposed ban on startups after they revoked their offers for the students placed through campus placements. While some startups revoked offers, some deferred joining dates.

Kaustubha Mohanty, AIPC convenor, said,

Many students, interested in setting up their own business, want to work in startups and understand how they function. We do not want them to lose out on opportunities. Only about 60% of the batch in these institutes is getting placed. Bigger firms prefer to pick candidates from the established IITs.

It appears that the decision to lift the ban was taken as students continued to show keen interest in startups. Also, as fewer firms are visiting newer IITs, they could not afford to have a blanket ban on companies.
