MyUpchar — a Delhi based startup which provides healthcare content in local languages, has announced that it has raised ₹2 crore in a seed funding round from a group of angel investors.

The investors who poured-in money in the current funding round includes Mohit Saytanand, Rajan Anandan and Alok Mittal, and another group of angel investors from funding platform LetsVenture.

With new capital coming to the company, it is now planning to create content in five or six other languages, including Marathi, Malayalam, etc.

The MyUpchar website provides a range of information from home remedies to medical consultations. It also provides information on Ayurveda, homoeopathy and allopathy to address various health and wellness-related issues.

The company’s objective is to solve the awareness and access problem related to healthcare in India, especially for tier-2 and 3 cities and the rural population.

MyUpchar has partnered with several doctors for the content. The team translates the content into various languages and then gets it verified by doctors to ensure that the meaning and context are not lost in translation.

MyUpchar claims to have 350 million online consumers, of which 200 million consume content in Hindi. The company expects the numbers to grow 2.5 times in next five years.

The startup competes with the likes of content and media biggies such as IndianExpress, Times Group, and others, as they have dedicated sections for each kind, and are now tapping Indic languages.

Research by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India shows that the total industry size is expected to touch $160 billion by 2017 and USD280 billion by 2020.
