Netflix, a media-services provider, headquartered in California, has unveiled a new lower-priced mobile-only subscription plan in India. The subscription plans, which is monthly basis, charges ₹199, and is only valid through mobile and tablet users in India.

“Our members in India watch more on their mobiles than members anywhere else in the world – and they love to download our shows and films. We believe this new plan will make Netflix even more accessible and better suit for people who like to watch on their smartphones or tablets – both on the go and at home,” said Ajay Arora, Director, Product Innovation, Netflix.

Netflix was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in 1997. It is an American media-service provider, headquartered in California.

The company’s primary business is its subscription-based streaming OTT service which offers online streaming of a library of films and television programs, including those produced in-house.

As of April 2019, Netflix had over 148 million paid subscriptions worldwide, including 60 million in the United States, and over 154 million subscriptions total including free trials.

The company said that more people sign up on mobile in India than anywhere in the world, as a percentage of total sign-ups in India.

While, the company also stated, “We believe this plan, which will launch in Q3, will be an effective way to introduce a larger number of people in India to Netflix and to further expand our business in a market where Pay TV ARPU is low (below $5). We will continue to learn more after launch of this plan.”

Whereas, apart from Netflix, other online streaming services include Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, Zee5, Jio Cinema, Voot, Sony Liv, and many others.
