Odisha government is looking to partner with the tech giant Google to help strengthen the startup ecosystem in the state. Odisha plans to emerge amongst top 3 startup hubs in the country by 2020, this partnership could help its vision. The startup programme launched to achieve this vision is called “Startup Odisha“, it was launched by the government in 2017.

“We are in discussion with Google for collaborations under the different programmes of the internet giant. Google Startup programme has a partnership with three states- Karnataka, Goa and Telangana where they are supporting startups. We are exploring a similar partnership with Google”, said a government official.

The state government is planning to create an ecosystem that will facilitate at least 1000 startups from Odisha in the coming five years. The government officials have already identified 250 startups that will be selected to partner with Google for assistance. The government will further identify 20 startups every month for the initiative.

Out of all the startups selected by the government so far, only 50 of them are from the tech domain.

Google Cloud Startup Program will provide mentorship, training and free credits to the startup to help them with their vision. The free credits provided to the startups in the early stages which will allow them to focus on building a business. It will also provide a scalable, reliable and a fast infrastructure to the startups.

Google play recently launched its first Indie Games Accelerator programme, it is a special edition of the Google Launchpad accelerator that was launched earlier. This programme will help the developers from the Asian countries to build nextgen mobile games by guiding them through the complete process.

Startup Odisha was launched after the launch of Startup India, to foster a startup culture across India and to train the youth of the country for the future. There were many other initiatives launched by other states as well like Kerala IT Mission by Kerala, T-Hub by Telangana and Startup Oasis by Rajasthan.
