Online cab aggregator Ola, run by ANI Technologies Pvt. Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Haryana government’s Department of Employment to generate 35,000 entrepreneurial opportunities in the state.

This MoU is part of the state’s ‘Saksham Haryana‘ initiative which was rolled out early last year to empower the youth through various skill development initiatives.

According to an Ola spokesperson, a part of these opportunities will be aimed towards development of a driver-partner ecosystem in the state.

Haryana plays an important role in the growth of Ola as Gurgaon, and Faridabad, along with Panchkula are the key markets for the company. It is also operational in other cities like Ambala and Kurukshetra.

“The MoU reflects Ola’s commitment to accelerate the state government’s efforts of creating two lakh jobs for the youth of the state,” Ola said in a statement, adding that the MoU aims to create 35,000 job opportunities.

Nayab Saini, Labour and Employment Minister, Haryana Government, said that the government has fixed a target and is looking to tap the employment potential through jobs in the government and private sector as well as through self-employment opportunities.

“Skill development is key to professional growth and we will thus, be working with various bodies, and companies like Ola to customize and upgrade the existing training infrastructure,” he added.

Recently, more governments have been looking to partner with big companies to foster self-employment among the youth of the country. Big companies like Facebook, Google among others are providing platforms and aids to different countries to strengthen their startup ecosystem to help the youth with skill development.

In a similar development, Odisha government has partnered with Google to strengthen startup ecosystem. This is being done under the ‘Startup Odisha’ programme started by the Odisha government.

Other governments initiatives aimed at generating employment opportunities for youths are Kerala IT mission, iStart by Rajasthan, along with T-Hub Telangana, among many others.
