Ola, a ride-hailing unicorn startup, has announced that it has started to register drivers before launching commercial operations in London, reported Mint.

The development from the Bengaluru-based platform Ola comes a day after another ride hailing giant Uber, got its commercial license revoked in the capital of the United Kingdom.

According to Simon Smith, Head of International, Ola, the company is inviting tens of thousands of private hire vehicle (PHV) drivers who are allowed to work for ride hailing companies across London.

Last month, Ola forayed into the self- drive car rental segment with the launch of its new platform ‘Ola Drive.

Ola, Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati-led was founded in December 2010 as an online cab services in Mumbai. It is an online transportation network company developed by ANI Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The company has been expanding its horizons with focus on credit over the last few years.

Ola offers commuters the option of both black cabs and private hire vehicles. The team claims to offer the highest driver rates in the region.

The Bengaluru based start-up has already been operating in British cities like Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool.

“We have built a robust mobility platform for London, which is fully compliant with TfL’s high standards. We have had constructive conversations with the authorities, drivers, and local communities in London over the past months, and look forward to contributing towards solving mobility issues in innovative and meaningful ways,” added Smith.

“Ola is recognised for its collaborative approach, working with national governments and local authorities, to help solve transport issues,” the company Ola, said.
