Amazon India, leading online retailer has doubled its seller base since July last year. In an official statement, the company stated that it had 1 lakh sellers on its platform in July 2016, which has now been increased to 2 lakhs sellers. The company has been taking a lot of notable initiatives to ensure better seller participation this year. It had launched a third party logistics provider along with setting up (ATES) Amazon Trained eCommerce Specialists and Service Provider Team (SPN).

Gopal Pillai, Director of Seller Services, Amazon India said that the company has been particular about ensuring betterment of the sellers with various initiatives. It has also worked on cutting down the cost incurred by sellers to sell their products on Amazon. All these initiatives, combined have resulted in a great response from the sellers and they have shown great interest in partnering with Amazon.

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) had announced last year that the eCommerce portals need to put a check on the sellers that their sales do not exceed 25% in any of the given categories. Since then, the eCommerce portals have been in competition to increase their seller base. Till December 2016, Flipkart had 140,000 registered sellers on its platform.
