Swiggy, a Bengaluru-based online food delivery platform has, reportedly, join hands with Bounce, an electric bike rental startup, to launch a bike taxi pilot in Indore and Ahmedabad, reportedly Inc42, citing a media report with close sources to the development.
“While this is just a pilot, the larger plan for Swiggy is to launch bike taxis in one of its major markets, which is said to be at least six months away. Bengaluru and Gurugram (Gurgaon) are being discussed as options,” a source said.
Swiggy was founded by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini in 2014. The company claims to have over 2 Lakh delivery partners and more than 1 Lakh restaurant partners spread across 200+ Indian cities.
The report added that the reasons for choosing these locations for the pilot are reported to be the fact that orders frequency are low for Swiggy in these regions. Also, the small size of the markets and the low chances of regulatory hurdles are said to be other reasons for this choice.
