Swiggy joins hands with Bounce to start bike taxi pilot in Indore, Ahmedabad: Report

Swiggy, a Bengaluru-based online food delivery platform has, reportedly, join hands with Bounce, an electric bike rental startup, to launch a bike taxi pilot in Indore and Ahmedabad, reportedly Inc42, citing a media report with close sources to the development.

The partnership will enable the unicorn delivery platform delivery partners to pick-up and drop customers during the time when food delivery orders will be low.

“While this is just a pilot, the larger plan for Swiggy is to launch bike taxis in one of its major markets, which is said to be at least six months away. Bengaluru and Gurugram (Gurgaon) are being discussed as options,” a source said.

Swiggy was founded by Sriharsha MajetyNandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini in 2014. The company claims to have over 2 Lakh delivery partners and more than 1 Lakh restaurant partners spread across 200+ Indian cities.

On the other hand, Bounce was founded by Vivekananda HallekereAnil Giriraju, and Varun Aghi in 2016, while its parent company Wicked Rides was founded in 2014. Bounce was launched to provide a smart mobility solution by giving its users the option of one-way rental, which lets the users rent the bike from anywhere, travel to their destination, and drop off the bikes at any location.
The bike-sharing startup is operational in Bengaluru, Mysore, Jaipur, Udaipur, Belagavi, Manipal, Jaisalmer, Gokarna, Hyderabad, and few other cities.

The report added that the reasons for choosing these locations for the pilot are reported to be the fact that orders frequency are low for Swiggy in these regions. Also, the small size of the markets and the low chances of regulatory hurdles are said to be other reasons for this choice.
