With the rise and growth of the Indian startups, there is a need to groom the future entrepreneurs of the country, to continue the chain of innovation. Indian academic institutions are trying to groom the Indian youths by offering a range of entrepreneurship programmes.

Here is a list of top 10 colleges providing various Entrepreneurship programs and courses in India:

Indian School of Business – Hyderabad

Indian School of Business (ISB), a private business school, was established by former McKinsey & Company employees Anil Kumar and Rajat Gupta. The institute was founded in 2001, with its headquarter in Hyderabad.

ISB is amongst the top business schools in the country, with campuses in Hyderabad and Mohali. It offers various postgraduate programmes in management domain for students.

The educational institute also offers Post Graduate Programme in Management for Family Business (PGP MFAB), to enable business owners with skills to better understand and run their business from a long-term perspective. The course is offered at Hyderabad campus.

Eligibility Criteria for PGP MFAB

  • Bachelors’ Degree or an equivalent qualification (like CA, etc.) Applicants should have completed the Bachelors’ Degree at the time of submitting the application.
  • No work experience is required for admission. However, the ISB strongly feels that an experience of 4-5 years will add a lot of value

Indian Institute of Management – Bangalore

Indian Institue of Management (IIM) Bangalore is amongst the most prestigious public business schools in the country. It was established in 1973 and was the third IIM to be established after IIM Calcutta and IIM Ahmedabad.

It offers various degrees, diplomas, and doctoral programmes. Although, the institute’s flagship Post Graduate Program in Management is among the most sought-after programmes in the country.

Focusing on entrepreneurship, IIM Bangalore also offers Management Programme for Entrepreneurs and Family Businesses (MPEFB) and Management Programme for Women Entrepreneurs (MPWE).

Eligibility Criteria for MPEFB

• Graduates with 5+ year of experience, after graduation. Those with professional qualifications from well-known/ reputed educational institutions will be preferred. Participants are expected to have a track record as entrepreneurs. If the applicant is an owner involved in building a high growth enterprise, the criterion of experience may be relaxed at the discretion of the programme directors.

• All participants will have to submit a 500-word statement of purpose along with the application form.

• Participants will be expected to have the requisite aptitude and skills to be able to work independently on computers in order to be able to accomplish the learning goals of the programme.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences – Mumbai

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is one of the oldest and most prestigious education institutes in the country. It was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. In 1964, it was deemed to be a university by the government of India,  under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

The institute focuses on Social Sciences and also offers degrees across various other fields like management, labour studies, and others.

TISS fosters the spirit of entrepreneurship through its Master of Arts (MA) in Social Entrepreneurship programme offered at its Mumbai campus.

Eligibility Criteria for MA in Social Entrepreneurship

  • Programme require completion of Bachelor’s Degree of minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognised university, in any discipline.
  • At the time of applying candidates studying in 3-year degree programme should have passed in all the subjects for the 1st to 4th semesters and candidates studying in 4-year degree programmes should have passed in all the subjects for 1st to 6th semester.

Xavier School of Management – Jamshedpur

Xavier School Of Management (XLRI) is a management institute founded by a Fr. Quinn Enright, S.J. in the Steel City of Jamshedpur in 1949. It offers various post graduation management programs including Business Management, General Management, and Human Resource Management.

XLRI promotes entrepreneurship through Post Graduate Programme for Certificate in Entrepreneurship Management (PGPCEM). It is a full-time 6-month long certificate programme.

Eligibility Criteria for PGPCEM

The candidate should be:

  • Be a Graduate from any recognized University.
  • Have an interest in entrepreneurship-social or commercial- even though currently not functioning as entrepreneurs.
  • Possess basic computer literacy.
  • Although no age bar has been stipulated, it is expected that the candidates applying for PGPCEM are physically and mentally fit to go through a typical XLRI programme.

S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research – Mumbai

S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), a premier business institute, was established in 1981 and inaugurated by the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in Mumbai. The business school offers various short and long-term management programmes for students based on their requirements.

SPJIMR offers Post Graduate Programme in Family Managed Business (PGP-FMB), to enable small and medium businesses to grow in a sustainable manner.

Eligibility Criteria for PGP-FMB

A potential candidate for the PGP-FMB programme will need to fulfil the following criteria:

  • Has passed an undergraduate programme from a certified/recognised University.
  • Should be a member of a family managed business (at least second generation), with a significant stake in a business.
  • Has worked in the family business for at least a year prior to applying for the course.
  • Has business acumen and is willing to learn.
  • Has a mentor who is willing to spend time as per the requirements of the programme.
  • Has a business of a certain size.

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies – Mumbai

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) was established as a management institute under the Mumbai University by Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal, with the help of a donation from Narsee Monjee Educational Trust in 1981. It later became a deemed university in 2003 and has since expanded its presence across Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Indore, and Shirpur.

NMIMS offers courses across various disciplines including management, engineering, medicine, science, law, and architecture.

The university offers MBA in Social Entrepreneurship and MBA in Entrepreneurship & Family Business, in order to inculcate entrepreneurial competencies in students to help them start and grow successful businesses.

Eligibility Criteria for MBA in Social Entrepreneurship

  • Graduation from a recognized University in any discipline.
  • a) Minimum two years’ experience with the social sector organization (NGOs, Social Enterprises, Government Departments, CSR / Environment / Sustainability departments) either as full-time staff or as a volunteer.
    OR
  • b) Minimum two years of full time corporate/administrative/business work experience.

Prin. L.N Welingkar Institute Management Development and Research

Prin. L.N Welingkar Insititute Management Development and Research is a business institute established in Mumbai in 1977. The institute offers a number of quality management programs based on student’s requirements like postgraduate programs, special courses, part-time courses, and certificate courses, across various fields like HR, retail management, e-biz, and healthcare management.

It also offers a Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Entrepreneurship Management, consisting of two semesters, spread over 11 months. The program is aimed at tackling problems faced by entrepreneurs, to navigate them through the nuances of being an entrepreneur.

Nirma University

Nirma University is a private university based in Ahmedabad, established in 2003. It functions under the aegis of Karsanbhai K. Patel’s Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF). The university has seven different institutes providing undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level programmes.

The university offers MBA in Family Business and Entrepreneurship through its Institute of Management, to help students in their entrepreneurial journey.

Eligibility Criteria for MBA in Family Business and Entrepreneurship

  • A three-year bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA.
  • Candidates appearing in the final year of the Bachelor’s Degree can also apply provided they furnish the proof of having met with the minimum eligibility criteria.

Amity University – Noida

Amity University, Noida, is a private university, which a part of Amity education group. It was established in 2005 and now has over 60 schools providing various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes.

Among various other programmes, the university also promotes entrepreneurship through a two year MBA in Entrepreneurship programme.

Eligibility Criteria for MBA in Entrepreneurship

  • For NS (Non Sponsored) category– min. 50% marks in Graduation with a min score of MAT – 500/GMAT – 500 / CMAT – 150 Or percentile in CAT/XAT – 75 / NMAT – 60 Or Amity Written Test on the day of Interview.
  • For S (Sponsored) category– min. 50% marks in Graduation with a min score of MAT-450/GMAT- 450/ CMAT – 100 Or percentile in CAT/XAT – 65 / NMAT – 50 OrAmity Written Test on the day of Interview.

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management – Pune

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune is Constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). Symbiosis International had established its first institution under the affiliation of the University of Pune in 1971. The university now has 28 academic institutions spread across ten locations in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Nashik, Noida, and Pune.

Among other programmes, SIBM promotes entrepreneurship through its two-year full-time MBA in Innovation and Entrepreneurship programme.

Eligibility Criteria for MBA in Innovation and Entrepreneurship

  • Candidate should be a graduate from any statutory university with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST) at graduation level.
  • Candidates appearing for final year examinations can also apply, but their admission will be subject to obtaining a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST) in the qualifying examination.
