Uber-pool

Recently, Uber published a blog and talked about UberPool services in Mumbai and also stated the development and growth. Uberpool is the least expensive category of Uber, a customer can share the ride with another passenger going in the same direction. This will save the time and money for customer and fuel for cab. By doing this, Uber has saved 936K liters of fuel, travel of 14 million kilometers and has reduced carbon emissions in Mumbai by 2622 Metric Tonnes.

Currently, Uber provide this service in six cities, which are Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune, and Kolkata. Uber is providing this service since 2015 and in these six cities, Uber claims to have saved 3.44 Million liters of fuel, which is a huge progress.

In blog, Uber mentioned that “One year ago, we launched UberPool on World Environment Day with the vision to decongest Mumbai. Today, as we mark the one year of UberPool, we’re excited to share the beginning of the impact we’ve made together. Not only has UberPool been up to 50% cheaper than UberGO, but also it has helped get more people into fewer cars and making it a good option for people’s wallets and our city.” Report created by the UberPool provide stats that, in terms of the proportion of travel, Mumbai secure the top position at 30%, followed by Hyderabad (29%), Delhi (28%), Pune (20%), Chennai (18%) and in Kolkata (15%).

UberPool was first launched in India in September 2015 with Bengaluru, just to experiment and to know the response of public. From last two years, the services are has been expanded in various cities and got positive response from every side. Recently, in February 2017, UberPool and Ola Share were both given final notices by the Karnataka government to halt their services in the state and in the same month, Delhi government too moved to put a ban on shared cab services in the state. Previously, in March 2016, Uber and Ola’s bike sharing services were also declared ‘illegal’ by the Karnataka State Transport Department and was banned.
