UrbanClap, a Gurugram-based, home services platform, has pocketed ₹149 lakh in fresh funding from Mekin Maheshwari, a former Flipkart CTO, and Anjali Bansal, founder of Avaana Capital.

While, Bansal invested ₹90 lakh from her personal investment fund SAB Holdings, Maheswari infused ₹50 lakh in the startup.

“Technology is key in our mission to empower a million micro-entrepreneurs. Mekin played a pivotal role in building technology that accelerated ecommerce adoption in India.  We are fortunate to have him onboard as an investor. Anjali’s deep experience working with the boards of public and private organisations will help UrbanClap evolve into a long term sustainable organisation,” Raghav Chandra, co-founder at UrbanClap, said.

UrbanClap was founded by Abhiraj BhalRaghav Chandra, and Varun Khaitan in 2014. The hyperlocal home service startup provides a wide range of services like plumbers, electricians, carpenters, cleaners, and pest control, among many others.

The startup has expanded its presence across eight Indian cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune. It has also gone international.

While, Maheshwari said, “The mission of enabling economic growth for a massive number of professionals using technology while creating customer delight is super inspiring. I am happy to be a partner in the UrbanClap journey.”

Notably, expanding its reach to global level, in 2018, UrbanClap had announced its plan to go international and has already launched operations in Dubai, beyong the 10 cities in India.

Recently, UrbanClap tied up with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to collaborate for the mobilization, training and certification of service professionals across India.

The MoU signed between the two organisations also recognise UrbanClap as a key strategic partner of the Skill India mission.

On the other hand, a report has predicted that the Indian hyperlocal market will grow to reach over $317.4 million (INR 2,306 Cr) by 2020.
