Vatsalya Dental, which runs a chain of hybrid dental clinics in Bengaluru, has received a commitment from US-based S-Squared Capital for an investment of around ₹20 crore.

The funding amount will be invested in multiple tranches over the next two years. It will be used to launch five specialised centres focused on paediatric dentistry in Bengaluru and other parts of Southern India by the end of 2019.

Dr Srivats Bharadwaj, chairman of Vatsalya Dental, said,

Most children fear dentists and dental treatment to the extent that many do not even go for their basic regular check-ups. The idea is to spread awareness of the importance of oral health, remove the fear of dentists and provide holistic care to children.

Currently, the company runs eight dental centres in Bengaluru. The first such centre — named Dento Jungle — was launched in JP Nagar, Bengaluru, spread across 8,000 square feet.Designed with a view to

It is designed with an aim to help children overcome the fear of dentists and dental treatments. There are around 11 consultation rooms at the Dento Jungle which mimics a cave or jungle-like setting with characters such as Mowgli and Bagheera from The Jungle Book.

The chain had raised about ₹11 crore in pre-Series A round from S-Squared Capital last year to expand operations and invest in technology.

Apart from social initiatives that train people in preventive dentistry, Vatsalya also provides end-to-end dental treatment at doorstep. The team at Vatsalya also provides services like surgical removal of teeth, laser surgeries, complete or partial denture prosthesis, root canal therapy, and fixed and bridge crown prosthesis.
