Volkswagen, the German automobile manufacturing giant has announced its collaboration with self-drive car rental startup Zoomcar in India. The partnership will help potential customers across key cities to avail its Polo cars under a particular subscription model, cited ET.

According to a release given by Volkswagen to ET, the company will also its customised financial, maintenance and repair services, among other benefits to Zoomcar.

“Through this partnership with Zoomcar, Volkswagen India enters into shared mobility and subscription services. We intend to transform the mobility sector by participating in various business models that drive growth. Were delighted to offer our best-selling carline Volkswagen Polo – through this channel,” Steffen Knapp, managing director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars said.

Volkswagen is a German automaker founded in 1937 by the German Labour Front, a Nazi labour union, and headquartered in Wolfsburg.

It is the flagship marque of the Volkswagen Group, the largest automaker by worldwide sales in 2016 and 2017. The group’s biggest market is in China, which delivers 40% of its sales and profits.

Whereas, Zoomcar was founded by Greg Moran and David Back in 2013 in Bengaluru. It offers self-driving rentals as well as car subscription.

“Zoomcar is thrilled to partner with Volkswagen to offer its vehicles on Indias only shared subscription marketplace, ZAP Subscribe,” Greg Moran, co-founder of Zoomcar.

According to the release, consumers are gradually moving towards shared mobility and it is expected that India will be leading the shared mobility business by 2030.

Volkswagen and Zoomcar intend to deepen this partnership by offering other vehicles from their existing product portfolio in the future, the releases stated.

Furthermore, other major car rental startups in India includes Ola Cabs, Myles Cars, Drivezy, Rev, MiCar, Carzonrent, selfdrive.in, voler, etc.
