Alcatel India launches a new entry-level budget oriented Android smartphone in India. The Alcatel U5 is priced at INR 5,999 exclusively on Flipkart.com. However, as of now, there is no information regarding the availability of the device (might be available from next week).

The device looks like an old-school BlackBerry smartphone with a rubber finished back case, which should give a good grip to the device with impact resistance features compared to the standard full metal unibody design language, that is mostly seen in the mid-tier smartphones. Here is the complete set of specifications of the Alcatel U5 HD smartphone.

The Alcatel U5 offers a 5-inch HD 720p IPS LCD screen, topped off with a 2.5D curved tempered glass on the top. Under the hood, the device is powered by a MediaTek MT6737 Quad-core SoC, with 1.25 GHz clock speed, paired with 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 16 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card (up to 128 GB). In terms of connectivity, the device offers dual SIM card slot with 4G LTE and VoLte capability on both the slots.

In terms of camera capability, the device offers a 13 MP rear-facing camera with 1080p video recording capability and an 8 MP front-facing selfie camera with 720p video recording capability. There are no special camera gimmicks which are found in the premium flagship smartphones. In terms of operating system, the device offers Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box. In terms of battery, the device offers a 2200 mAh Li-ion battery, with normal charging capability.

For the price tag of INR 5,999, this device offers a plenty of features for the price tag it is being offered. However, few features like a bigger battery, fingerprint scanner and a USB type C port instead of micro USB port could have been made it a true entry-level smartphone with every feature that one can crave for.
