The World’s largest retailing company has decided to open at least 3,000 more Amazon Go Stores

Amazon the biggest e-commerce website has been thinking about expanding their new cashierless stores to expand over the globe. Started with actually 4 outlets as of now, the company wishes to make it more widespread.

Four Stores already in Operation

Amazon has 4 stores up and running as of now in the US, they are the only Amazon Go Stores as of now with all the facilities working properly. 3 are in Seattle, 1 in Chicago and another one is on its way to a full operation in New York. Amazon desires to open as many as 3,000 Amazon Go Stores by 2021, Bloomberg reports.

The one recently opened in Chicago is the new addition to the Amazon Go Store. The functioning works on the basis that they don’t have any cashier and the products get added to the cart of the customer when they pick up the product from the shelf. The whole concept is very good. But, on the humanity part, people who would steal, makes the implementation really tough around the globe and will take time. With no one in authority to watch them and stop them, except for CCTV cameras to record their activities.

Big Plans for the Future

According, to the reports Amazon will end up opening up to 10 more stores by the end of this years. They have already made up their mind to open at least 50 stores by 2019. The biggest hurdle which the company had to tackle even at the opening at their first Amazon Go store was the resources and money. Bloomberg’s report says, the first store which they opened had them incur around $1 million. And, even the hardware is tough to get for the advance and easy transactions the cashierless store will have to offer.

Amazon’s plan for the future is to promote the sale of prepared and packaged food items, rather than groceries. Already other company/ rival competitors are in the field with the same idea of providing food items than groceries. The company additionally thinks opening multiple stores in the same metro cities would provide a centralized storehouse for all of their commodities making the operations easy.

Working up the Stairs

Bloomberg notes that Amazon’s focus is more on the densely populated metro cities. These Cashierless stores would affect the business of companies like Subway, Panera and Pret A Manger — restaurants that allow for quick eating or convenient takeaway.

Amazon which is new in the market of cashierless stores has very less competition as of now, but soon things may change.

Competition already has Started

As of the market scenario Microsoft is working on their cashierless technology as well and may soon launch their store too and Standard Cognition opened up a cashierless store in San Francisco earlier this month, putting up a competition already.
