Apple iPhone 5s

The outdated iPhone 5s, could well become Apple’s trump card in allowing it to dominate the mid-range smartphones market. If the reports are to be believed, Apple is looking to reduce the price of iPhone 5s to ₹15,000 in order to make it more popular among the youth of India.

Along with an aggressive pricing, the company is also looking to go online-only for iPhone 5s, a move which is expected to reduce the logistics cost for the phone. According to the senior executives of Apple in India, the distributors have already been notified of the supply easing out in the coming weeks and that it will be available exclusively online. Currently, the smartphone sells for around ₹18,000.

The mid range smartphone market is captured by the likes of Samsung and Chinese brands like Oppo, Vivo, Huawei and Xiaomi. It saw a growth of 158% in the first quarter of 2017. The leading players included Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Gionee and Motorola.
