For the first time in the history, Apple has launched their latest and greatest smartphones on the same day as that of the western countries like US and UK. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be available across the country from September 29 via offline and online retail stores.

Pricing details: iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus now comes in either 64 GB or 256 GB onboard storage.

  • iPhone 8               -64 GB is priced at INR 64,000
  • iPhone 8               -256 GB is priced at INR 77,000
  • iPhone 8 Plus      -64 GB is priced at INR 73,000
  • iPhone 8 Plus      -256 GB is priced at INR 86,000

However, comparing with the US price tag, Indians have to pay a hefty price tag. In fact, the 64 GB iPhone is priced at $699 or INR 44732.50 (direct conversion) and the iPhone 8 with 256 GB storage costs $849 or INR 54331.75. It’s the same case with the iPhone 8 Plus as well, the entry level variant with 64 GB is priced at $799 or INR 51132.00 and the same model with 256 GB costs $949 or INR 60731.25.

iPhone 8:

The iPhone 8 comes with the similar design as that of the iPhone 7. However, there are a few noticeable changes outside and completely re-engineered package inside. The mobile features same 4.7 inch IPS LCD screen with improved colour accuracy. According to Apple, all three iPhones feature most durable glass ever in a smartphone.

The device is powered by the Apple A11 Bionic chip, specially engineered by the Apple, paired with 2 GB LPDDR4 RAM (most probably). The single 12 MP camera now comes with improved features like 1080p video recording with up to 240 frames per second and 4K video recording up to 60 frames per second (first time in any smartphone).

The A11 Bionic chip comes with 6 core configuration, 2 being a high-performance core and 4 high-efficiency cores. The chip also comes with machine learning capability and core support for the Augmented reality. Compared to the last generation A10 chipset, the device offers 30 percent improved performance without compromising with the battery life.

iPhone 8 Plus:

iPhone 8 Plus is an improved version of iPhone 7 Plus. The device features similar form-factor and the major change between the latter is all glass back panel. Yes, now both devices support wireless charging (Qi open standards) with fast charging capability. The device features improved 5.5-inch retina display with improved colour gamut with 3D touch just like the previous iteration.

The iPhone 8 has the same 6 cylinders A11 bionic engine with 2 GB RAM. Instead of a mono 12 MP camera, the device now comes with dual 12 MP camera. The main wide angle lens offers F/1.8 aperture and the secondary 12 MP sensor offers F/2.4 telephoto lens. The camera now comes with improved Portrait mode, 1080p slow motion video at 240 frames per second and 4k video recording up to 60 frames per second.

Both devices now offer glass and aerospace 7000 series aluminium back mid-frame. The devices will be available in space grey, silver and gold. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus comes with water and dust resistance rating.
