We all know about the dispute between Apple and Qualcomm for their never-ending patent entrapments. Finally, Apple is looking to move away from Qualcomm to work as an independent company in the near future.

Though the processors used in the iPhone and iPad are designed and manufactured by Apple, many microchips and transistors are sourced from Qualcomm (by paying a royalty). However, in the recent time the cold war between the two tech giants has stooped up and they are finally going to settle once in for all.

According to the recent news, Apple is working on future iPhones and iPads without using any Qualcomm component. Apple has come to this decision for a fact that, there is a dispute between the two in terms of supply change arrangements and Qualcomm literally has stopped providing software support to test upcoming hardware from Apple (iPhones and iPads).

Now both companies are in series legal dispute and working hard to win the case at any cost. However, Qualcomm spokesperson said that:

“We are committed to supporting Apple’s new devices consistent with our support of all others in the industry,”

In the earlier days, the only model supplier for Apple iPhones and iPads was Qualcomm, from the last few years, Apple’s modems are supplied by Intel, who is also the supplier of the processors for the Mac lineup.

As per the consequences are concerned, Apple is big enough to ditch Qualcomm at all cost to make its own components. However, its a huge loss for Qualcomm, as Apple is one of the major smartphone brands to use the Qualcomm’s chips and modems.

If this goes well, Apple will continue to use Qualcomm’s chipset till the stock perishes out. So, when the company launches a new line of iPhones and iPads in 2018, we can expect to see Apple engineered component altogether.
