Apple always work towards giving a better experience for the users, who pay an premium amount. However, something has been backfiring Apple and people are bothered about the dame. Here is the complete details on Apple slowing down older iPhones.

According to latest news, Apple is literally slowing down older iPhones and the same has been confirmed by the company officials. Literally, the same thing has been proved by running benchmarking application on a older iPhone and a newer iPhone. The results clearly indicates that, the newer iPhones scores much better scores compared to the older iPhones.

Ex: If we look at the Geekbech scores on a newer and an year old Apple iPhone 6, the newer phone scores a 1456 points and single core performance and an year old iPhone scores 1055 points. There is an almost 1/3rd difference, which is very prominent difference and plays an important role in day to day user experience.

Is Apple doing this to force users to upgrade to newer iPhones? Of course not, Apple’s intentions are to improve user experience. In fact, Apple slowdowns the older iPhones with degraded batteries. Slower the performance in the older phones will offer better battery life. So Apple throttling the older iPhones.

If you get a newer battery, the phones complete potential can be used without any throttling.

Remedy: This might affect all users who are using iPhones which are more than an year old. The only possible way that one can do is to replace the battery via official Apple service centre.

Here is the official product statement from Apple regarding this fiasco.

“Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.

Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.”
