BlackBerry has sold the rights of the brand name BlackBerry to a China-based OEM TCL. Now, TCL launches a new mid-tier Android smartphone BlackBerry Motion, with the following features.

The BlackBerry Motion offers a metal and glass (combination) design with keeping up with the BlackBerry trademark designs like the legendary BlackBerry logo, rectangular form factor and BlackBerry OS specified services, like BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry e-mail client and Blackberry security. The specifications of the BlackBerry Motion are somewhat similar to that of their last smartphone BlackBerry KeyOne. Here is the complete list of the tech-specifications for the BlackBerry Motion.

The BlackBerry Motion offers a standard 5.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD display, featuring standard 16:9 aspect ratio, protected by 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass on the top. Under the display, one can find the hidden dragon, AKA, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa-core SoC, paired with 4 GB LPDDR3 RAM, 32 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated Micro SD card slot (up to 128 GB).

In terms of camera capability, the BlackBerry Motion is incarnated with a 12 MP rear-facing camera with F/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and 4K video recording capability. For the selfie enthusiasts, the device offers an 8 MP front-facing selfie camera with 1080p video recording capability. In terms of connectivity, the device offers dual SIM card slots with 4G LTE and VoLte capability on both the slots. Standard features like dual-band WiFi (both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz) with WiFi Hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2 are also present.

The unique selling point of the BlackBerry Motion is security. The device comes with a new feature called Locker, which can be used to encrypt any image, video or a document with 2-level authentication (fingerprint or a pin code). The device also features a dedicated hardware button named convenience key, which can be used to switch profiles in seconds.

All the above-mentioned features require a battery, this time, the BlackBerry Motion has the biggest battery (in terms of capacity). The device offers a 4000 mAh Li-ion battery with fast charging Qualcomm Quick charge 3.0 capability via USB type C port. The device also supports USB OTG as well. In terms of operating system, the device runs on stock Android Nougat 7.1.1., and the company has promised to upgrade this device to Android Oreo before December 31st, 2017.

As of now, the device will be made available in the United Arab Emirates for 1,699 AED and in Saudi Arabia for 1,699 SAR (approximately INR 29,990). At this price tag, the device feels slight overrated and doesn’t offer features for the INR 30,000 price tag.
