BlackBerry Priv, the first BlackBerry smartphone running completely on the Android operating system is no longer supported by the company. From this month onwards, the smartphone will not receive any software updates or monthly security updates what so ever.

However, if there are any critical security breaches or bugs, they will be solved using OTA. If you bought a new BlackBarry Priv, then the device will get support from the service centres until the last day of the warranty period.

If we look at the smartphone, the company has been supporting the smartphone for almost 24 months, which is a golden standard when it comes to Android smartphone software and hardware support. So, literally, you have nothing to worry, except for the fact that, the smartphone will not get any new features in the future.

According to BlackBerry:

“When we introduced our first Android device more than 24 months ago, we committed to delivering 2 years of monthly software updates for the Priv. Having now stepped outside the original 2-year window, we will no longer be delivering monthly updates for the Priv moving forward,”

If we look at the design and specifications, the design is one of the weird ones that we have seen in the recent time. However, this is always the case with the BlackBerry branded smartphones. So, it has the goodness of Android ecosystem as well as the 4 row QWERTY keypad.

2016 launched BlackBerry Priv has specifications of a premium flagship smartphone of 2017. The BlackBerry Priv offers an all plastic unibody solution with a 2K OLED 5.4-inch touch display protected by 2.5D curved tempered glass on the top. This display is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Hexa-core SoC, paired with 3 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 32 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot (up to 128 GB).

Looking at the camera capability, the smartphone offers an 18 MP main camera with F/2.2 aperture and 1080p video recording capability. The phone offers a 2 MP selfie camera with HD video recording capability.

The Phone came with Android Lollipop 5.1.1 and received Android Marshmallow and struck with the same software update till date. Everything on the smartphone is powered by a non-user replaceable 3,410 mAh Li-ion battery with Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 capability out of the box, which can charge the smartphone in less than 2.5 hours.

Finally, a great smartphone from BlackBerry has come to an end. What do you think about this smartphone? Are you happy with the 2 years support for a smartphone that will cost you an uphill amount of ₹60,000+? Share your details in a comment box.
