Brian Acton

Brian Acton, the co-founder of WhatsApp which was later acquired by Facebook, on Wednesday announced that he was leaving the company to start a non-profit venture of his own.

In his Facebook post, which announced his resignation to the public, Brian wrote that he has decided to move on in life to start a new life and hence, leaving Whatsapp with immediate effect. He added that the next venture by him would include starting of a non-profit organisation, which will serve in the domains of technology and communication. Though, he did not share more concrete details about his new venture.

Acton had co-founded WhatsApp with Jan Koum in 2009 and agreed to sell it to Facebook in 2014 for approximately $19 billion USD in cash and stock.

In the same Facebook post, Brian also added that he was fortunate that all good things happened early in his life so that he could take more risks and start a new venture at such a young age.

There was, however, no update on whether Brian is selling all of his stake in Whatsapp and Facebook while resigning or he would continue to own that.
