Facebook’s long-rumored video chat device, Portal may launch soon

Facebook had some hard time in the past few months and to unveil its new products during that time would have been a really wrong time and an option. The company waited for everything to settle down and now are ready to get their devices out in the market for the users.

Facebook has finally decided to release it long-rumored and awaited video chatting device by next week, according to financial website Cheddar.

The previous report similar to this report was announced by the website stating that Facebook may launch its device “Portal” in the annual conference ‘F8’ in May.

However, the whole idea of launching & unveiling the device was pushed back due to all the scandals the social network had to face over the past few months.

Particularly the Cambridge Analytica fiasco and the role it played in Russia’s election interference in 2016.

Let the Launch Begin

Now, that the social network is apparently ready to introduce the devices to the public — yes, devices because it will reportedly come in 2 versions. The larger of the 2 variant will set the owner back around $400 (₹28,900 approx.), while the smaller one will cost approximately $300 (₹21,650).

They will be able to control them using Alexa voice commands, and they’ll have the capability to play music and videos, show cooking recipes and news briefs, among other things. Another instance of this device turning into a Smart Product.

No, final verdict, yet will still wait for its launch

Cheddar says Facebook has also implemented a new privacy feature after the company’s reputation took a big hit. The devices are supposed to have AI-powered wide-angle cameras that can follow you around, so one can chat with friends and family even while they’re cleaning their room or doing something else. Now, that camera will come with a privacy shutter: no need to tape over it when it’s not in use anymore. We’ll be let to know if those details are true in the very near future if Facebook truly does unveil the devices before October.
