Galaxy S9 to be the first smartphone with Snapdragon 845 SoC

Samsung is once again leading the hardware race, last year, the Samsung Galaxy S8 was the first smartphone to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and this time, the first smartphone to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ confirms the undisclosed sources.

This chipset should offer double the CPU and GPU processing powered compared to the present generation flagship SD 835. The chipset should also add features like 4K video recording capability up to 60 frames per second and 1080p video recording up to 240 frames per second. In terms of AR capability, the SoC is expected to offer dedicated cores to offer improved Augmented reality and Virtual reality in the real-time with improved battery life.

Behind the scenes:

The Samsung is the one of the largest smartphone chipset manufacturer in the world. So, even the Qualcomm is depending on the Samsung to manufacture the upcoming flagship processor. So, it makes sense that, the first batch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC will be reserved for the Samsung itself.

This might be a great deal for the Samsung, but for the other OEM’s this will be a nightmare. As other manufacturers as to settle down with the last generation processor or have to wait for few more months to encapsulate the latest processor. By the time, the SoC will be available to the other OEM’s Samsung would have already captured a junk of premium flagship market, making it difficult for the other OEM’s.

This is the reason, where the LG G6 settled with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, which was one of the main points that made a hole in its sale. So, if everything goes well, then the company should announce the Samsung Galaxy S9, featuring SD 845, 6 GB or 8 GB RAM, dual camera, curved display, and probably fingerprint sensor located below the touch display can be expected in Mobile World Congress held in February 2017.
