Gionee launches another budget-friendly Gionee X1 smartphone in India. The device has all the basic cravings from an entry-level smartphone buyer, like full-metal unibody design, fingerprint reader and 4G LTE with VoLte capability.

The Gionne X1 is powered by MTK MT6737 SoC, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB onboard storage with a dedicated SD card slot (up to 256 GB). The camera’s on Gionee X1 noted to be 8 MP rear facing + 8 MP front facing selfie camera. The device’s 5 inch HD 720p display is protected by unknown 2.5D curved tempered glass.

In terms of software, the device runs on Android Nougat and the Gionee X1 is not bound to receive any major Android updates or security updates (same case with their previous devices).

The 3000 mAh li-ion battery is non-user accessible and does support normal 5V, 2A charging via micro-USB port. The device does host all basic sensors like accelerometer, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor. If you are expecting to use this device to enjoy VR content, forget it as the device does not offer Gyroscopic sensor and hall sensor.

At this price tag, the device looks like the best in class. However, considering its after-sale service history and software updates it’s not the best one.
