Google pulls the plug for its first AR centric project, the project Tango. In fact, when this project was unveiled with a Lenovo smartphones, we have very strong vibes about this project and the way that has been projected.

Google’s new SDK named AR Core has been going well for the company. So, to help the developers to narrow down their development process, the company is focusing on a single project to offer much better support for the platform development.

Here is the official statement from the Google’s Project Tango:

“We’re turning down support for Tango on March 1, 2018. Thank you to our incredible community of developers who made such progress with Tango over the last three years. We look forward to continuing the journey with you on ARCore.”

“Google is continuing AR development with ARCore, a new platform designed for building augmented reality apps for a broad range of devices without the requirement for specialised hardware.”

Project Tango was initially announced in 2014, which enables the smartphone or tablet powered by this hardware will feature the ability to generate 3D pictures and objects in the real-life 3d Space. However, as mentioned, to incorporate this feature one needs to have a dedicated hardware.

However, the AR Kit can be implemented on a normal smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, Google Pixel 2, and the Google Pixel 2 XL. As this has an added advantage over the Tango and in the future, Google AR Core is expected to be a built-in feature on the Android ecosystem.

On the one hand, ending the project to get more resource for a single project is a great thing. Big companies like Google and Apple will always come up with newer technologies to replace the already existing. The official support for the Project Tango will come to halt from March 1, 2018.
