After disappearing for almost a  week,  the popular digital wallet app Google App(Tez) for India is now available for iOS users. The recent release note does not speak much about what exactly has been fixed. All it states is that “We’ve listened to your feedback and we’ve made several improvements to the payment experience.”

After update, the app requires restoring the UPI bank account. Not a lot has been modified about the interface of the app. Although we tend to do hope those rather annoying “better luck next time” scratch cards that you get when payments are completed are eliminated permanently.

Google Pay’s failure during past few days and scuffling with payment failures before that, would not have helped at a time once digital payments are seeing in depth traction, thanks to the ecommerce flourishing by manifolds. There are the web shopping sales, together with the Amazon Great Indian Sale, the Flipkart massive Diwali Sale and reliance etc. This time it has been the peak time for digital payments because most users are avoiding stepping out of home as far as possible.

Looking onto numbers issued by the National Payments Corporation of India earlier this month, around 180 crore UPI transactions were completed in Sept valuing to the maximum amount of approximately Rs 3.29 lakh crore. This led to a very fair large difference from the transactions carried out  in August, the most recent chapter in what has been a continuing rise in UPI transactions with a lot of on-line purchases and payments being done thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Google Pay depends heavily on UPI payments, notably for iPhone users, although the Google Pay app for Android version will support few credit cards as well.
