Google Wifi

Google Wifi, the search giant’s mesh router system, is rolling out an update. With this, customers will soon be able to test all connected devices when performing a Network Check.

How to test speed:

To test a specific device with the Google Wifi app, just tap on it in your connection list. This would open the details page. Then, open the overflow menu and tap on “Test device speed.” The UI is not the same as the existing speed test. It’s a popup on the same info screen.  Once the test is done, the popup lists the connection speed of your chosen device to the currently connected AP.

Google posted: “Starting today, we’re rolling out a new feature to Google Wifi. It lets you measure how each individual device is performing on your Wi-Fi network. Knowing Wi-Fi coverage is poor in an area of your home can help you pinpoint the exact bottleneck when you notice a connectivity slowdown. Then, you’ll know to move your Google Wifi point closer to that device. You can either move the device itself for a stronger connection.”

Google estimates that the average household has 18 devices connected to their network. So, this new feature will provide a significant upgrade as smarter homes get more and more connected.

This feature is live in the latest Google Wifi app, and you can download it right now.
