HTC U12 Plus Design: no notch
The big news about the design of HTC U12 Plus is that it does not matter. Unlike the majority of the 2018 flagship, the 6-inch display is not interrupted by an unwanted cutout. It’s a glass-clad device that feels as thick as it is, but it’s still high end, for which HTC is known. It has been rated IP 68 for water resistance, there is a lack of headphone jack and still, there is considerable bezel in the top and bottom of the display. At least it comes in a very nice transparent color-way. Actual standout feature – unique for HTC U12 Plus – Edge Sense 2. First introduced on the HTC U11, Edge Sense Let’s squeeze our sides and enable the conversation with the phone. The second repetition of technology is not only sensitive, but it allows you to develop other functions by tapping the sides.
For example,” you can map a tap to bring a quick app launcher with the squeeze to open the camera. On paper, it seems like a thing, but used U11 for a reasonable time, this feature is surprisingly useful.”
Squeeze functionality also works in the app, and for this, the developer does not need to update anything – you do it through the Edge Sense settings panel. To zoom in on the map squeeze or leave a track in Spotify becomes almost instantly natural.
This is a strange sensation. There is some doubt about having a standby switch which is missing here. Apparently, Apple has done something with Touch ID in the past, but the real button has also been shown.
With Pixel 2 and iPhone X, the U11 and the U11 Plus made one of the best phone cameras of 2017. What is the meaning of setting up HTC Pictures separately: Where other phones focus on increasing color and saturation, the U11 looks natural and snaps.
HTC U12 Plus Camera & Other features
In U 12 Plus, HTC has added a secondary camera for 2x zooming and to help with the new live Bokeh mode. It shows Bokey’s effect in real-time, so you do not have to show it because it really looks. Other camera improvements include a new HDR boost mode and better focusing – we have to spend more time on the phone. The front also has dual cameras. Again, these 8-megapixel sensors work together for Bokeh mode. The video can be recorded up to 4K 60fps, while there is a slow-speed mode that will shoot 240fps.
There is also very good audio in the HTC phone, U12 Plus has the same boomsound hi-fi version used in U 11 Plus, and there is a pair of ANC USB-C headphones in the box. I had only a few minutes to listen to, but it looked better than the OnePlus 6. I was also taking with me.
HTC is still sticking to a more common, and often better LCD than the OLED technology for a 6-inch display. In some models, it can be disappointing, but here it does not really bother me. The performance is excellent: bright, colorful and contains DCI-P3 gamut in it. However, it is missing in those dark colors that receive the OLED.
HTC U12 Plus Battery & Power
There is a 3500 mAh battery inside, support for both Quick Charge 3 and 4+ (though you only have the pre-enabled plug in the box) – but not wireless charging. It’s a glass phone, it’s a shame that Qi Charging is not included here.

The smartphone is priced at around INR 57,000 in the Indian market and it will be available on online as well as offline channels.
