Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens and iPod inventor Tony Fadell have come up with a new watch concept that uses the Type 2 e-Crown concept. The watch uses full mechanical concepts to tell time and also contains the new concept of “e-Crown” module.

It is basically an electronic mechanism which is used to set the watch and it makes sure that the time provided is accurate. It is said to be 100 percent mechanical. If anybody is not willing to use the mechanical part then can use it as a normal watch as well.

Fadell says that he think e-Crows already exists and its improving upon it. To him he says that its like taking a watch winder and placing it inside the watch. The watch will reset itself at a tap. A closer look at reveals that there is no crown. It has two modules: one being completely mechanical and one other on top of it is being the electronic e-Crown module. The former does the usual job where as the latter does the replacing of the crown.

The company said that the watch has three modules. Full e-Crown mode, the crown is set to precision of a second by the e-crown. The app, that is semi e-crown uses only the crown for minute level precision and then manually returns the watch to the setting it is actually supposed to be in. The crown is self sufficient, self winding and uses only 1.8 joules of energy every day.

The company hasn’t provided complete details about its movements inside the watch and the Type2 watch will go into production this year.
