What do we expect from a flagship smartphone? Hhigh-end camera, High-resolution display with narrow bezels, powerful processor, ample amount of storage and nice build Quality. It looks like the LG V30 is the true flagship smartphone from LG for 2017 (not the LG G6).

Build quality:

LG G6 is one of the best-looking smartphones that are launched in 2017. The device features glass design with 7000 series aluminium mid-frame to keep everything in place. The bezels on the phone are narrower than the one seen in the LG G6. The device has two volume keys on the right-hand side of the device and that’s all, there is no power button also. Instead, the backward placed finger print scanner doubles as the power key. The device offers MIL military standard certification with an IP68 rating for the water and dust resistance.

Display:

The LG V30 offers 6 inch 2K (QHD) 1440 x 2880 pixels resolution display. Instead of IPS LCD, now the device uses OLED screen for better viewing angles and to improve battery usage. The V series was known for its secondary display, LG finally omits the secondary display in favour of always on feature. Always on feature is an important feature that is seen previously on the Samsung and Moto smartphone. Only a few pixels light-up to show the time and notification (whenever the phone is pulled out from the pocket). The device offers 18:9 cinematic aspect ratio making it one of the best-looking displays with Dolby Vision and HDR10 compliant.

Camera:

Like most of the flagship smartphones, LG V30 comes with the dual rear camera setup. (16 MP + 13 MP setup). The first lens on the setup offers 3 axial optical image stabilisation and F/1.6 aperture (first time in the smartphone). The second sensor comes 13 MP count with a F/1.9 aperture with a wide-angle lens. The main camera unit does support 4K video recording capability with Stereo and HDR mode.

Operating system:

The device runs on Android Nougat 7.1.2 with custom LG UI on the top. The device is tipped to receive Android Oreo update in the near future. Though the user experience might not be same as that of the stock Android smartphone, the device offers additional features that are not usually offered by the stock UI. Features like programmable navigation keys, gesture control and 3rd party theme support is always a welcome addition. However, if you haven’t used an LG smartphone, it should take some time before becoming familiar with the features.

Additional feature:

The LG V30 comes with either 64 GB or 128 GB flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot, which can accept micro cards up to 256 GB. The device comes with 3300 mAh non-user replaceable battery with Qualcomm Quick charge capability and Wireless Qi charging. The USB type C port on the bottom does offer data transfer speed up to USB 3.1 compliant. the device is also the first smartphone from LG to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Octa-core SoC with Adreno 540 GPU.

At least on paper, the device promises to offer a trendy set of features, which are on par with the competition. The LG V30 is a smartphone focused on those set of audience, who create content on the go. The device is priced around 900 Euros, which is slightly less than the price tag of recently announced Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
