The world never settles for less and how?

By discovering avant-garde technologies that make our lives much at ease.
Today, you can’t imagine your world without an internet connection. From booking a cab to searching the net on how to do basically anything, the internet is your sole savior!
Be it your work or your personal time, good internet speed is your ultimate requirement.
No wonder, we also prefer to have coffee at cafes that offer good internet speed!
One can’t refrain from the fact that it is an important part of our lives today.

A good Wi-Fi is the ultimate game changer in today’s IT infrastructure environment. Not only professionally, but personally too, you’d not wish your videos to buffer more and play less. We know this.
What if we tell you that you get a speed 100 times faster than the traditional Wi-Fi systems which will be more reliable, secure with no visual interference?
Sounds like a dream that would remain one?

No!

The unique invention of LiFi has unlocked a new value altogether for the data transmission in the world now. Yes, you read it right, Light Fidelity(LiFi) is likely to be the next level in the evolution of the in-house wireless internet technology.
Before you get your hands-off your existing Wi-Fi routers, have a look at what exactly it is and how does it work?

LiFi, what is it actually?

Unlike Wi-Fi that transmits data from an access point using radio frequency, LiFi is a Visible Light Communication(VLC) system. Sounds interesting but complicated? Wait, let us explain it in detail.

A VLC system makes communication happen through illumination. Therefore, LiFi uses visible light, like the bulbs we see around ourselves, to transmit data. It runs wireless communications that have the capacity to travel at much higher speeds. In LiFi, your common household LED bulb is basically your router that is responsible for data transfer with a speed of up to 224 gigabits per second, which equates to downloading your favorite 18 movies each of 1.5 GB in every single second.

Tongue-Tied?
Well, not only this, technology is way more secure and is reachable to the areas where even radio frequencies fail to! With its futuristic speed, it is deemed to create a significant impact on the Internet of Things too, as too many devices connected together for data transfer will take place in its full-throttle.

Another great point about LiFi is that it cannot penetrate walls, therefore now you can stay calm that your neighbors won’t be able to make use of your internet while you are paying for it.

A great sigh of relief, right?

LiFi surely has the power to support more robust and reliable wireless networks that complement and enhance existing cellular and Wi-Fi networks.

That’s okay, but how does it work?

We all are well aware of the fact that all the existing wireless technologies utilise varied frequencies on the electromagnetic spectrum. LiFi too hikes information through the visible light communication(VLC). By saying this, we mean that it requires a photo-detector to receive light signals and a processor to convert the data into streamable content. As a result, the semiconductor nature of LED light bulbs makes them a feasible source of high-speed wireless communication.

When a constant current source is applied to an LED bulb, it emits a constant stream of photons observed as visible light. When this current is given a variation slowly and steadily, the bulb tends to dim up and down. As we all know, these LED bulbs come under the semiconductor family, the current and optical output can be modulated at extremely high speeds which can be detected by a photo-detector device and converted back to electrical current.

These LED bulbs thus can be switched on and off at an instant. This process is So quick that the human eye cannot even detect it. The photo receivers that receive these light signals covert the data sent into actual streamable content. This streamable content is basically a binary data stream such as a video, web, or audio file that we all access.

One big question is, can it work in the dark?

Well, as the LiFi technology used LED bulbs as their access points, people do get in a fix whether they can use LiFi in absence of light. Putting a full-stop to all the queries regarding this, we would like to tell you that LiFi can work when the lights are off. Pure Life claims that the technology allows signals to be sent with light visibility down to 60 Lux. You may not be able to figure out that the lights are on, but they are.
Not only this, you can also use LiFi in direct sunlight through a filtering process that allows the receivers to only use signals from the LEDs and not from the sun.

It is evident that with the ever-increasing demand for data transfer and loaded congestions on existing Wi-Fi networks, there is a great need for high-speed internet. This will be fulfilled by LiFi. New LiFi products are getting launched faster than ever before.
LiFi will definitely digitize the world by manipulating light in order to transfer information using low-energy technology. It offers an unprecedented opportunity for connectivity within hospitals, healthcare facilities, banking and defense owing to its secure communication and no electromagnetic interference. The integration of internet of things devices and LiFi will provide a great pool of opportunities for retailers and other businesses alike. For example, business owners could transmit data to multiple customers’ phones quickly, securely and remotely.

Also, various companies have filed live patents for the application of LiFi in the automobile sector, so that the technology could create a lasting impact to increase road safety, communicate road conditions to traffic lights or even enhance vehicle to vehicle communications.

LiFi is sure to enable business analytics across all industries where lighting, as well as high-speed connectivity, plays a vital part.

Our old friend Wi-Fi is sure to face some rest while LiFi makes way for a more potentially stronger option in the market!
