Facebook, the number one social media network that has more number of users than any of the competition is in line to pass a new law, which might irk Indian user base. This is something to deal with the recent surge to attach Aadhaar number with Bank account, Mobile Number, and now Facebook might also pass a new law to mandatory attach the Aadhaar number to get most out of it.

A Reddit user, who tried to sign up to Facebook was prompted to enter the name in line with the  Aadhaar details. Though it’s just asking for the name, the company might have future plans regarding attachment of Aadhaar number in the future.

Facebook has been the number one site with a lot of fake accounts, in fact, the social media platform has more fake profiles compared to real profiles and attaching Aadhaar card might reduce this nonsense by a large margin, but at what cost? Adhaar card has everything from Biometric information to the official postal address, Facebook might argue to provide better social media experience, however, most of the internet-centric people are not ready to share their Aadhaar details with a social media website.

The sad news about this is the fact that, Aadhaar or UIDAI chairman is supporting this move by commenting:

“UID can be an easy way for verifying one’s Twitter and Facebook account, this implies that anyone (not just celebrities) will be able to get verified accounts, with their UID credentials. It can similarly be used for other online accounts where one needs to verify his/her identity.”

So, what do you think about this issue? Is linking Aadhaar card with a social media website has more advantages rather than personal space intervention? Share your view on the Aadhaar card and the security concerns surrounding the most controversial ID card that India has ever seen.
