Microsoft is popular among consumers for its electronics and software products. Recently, Microsoft has launched a new authenticator tech also known as the “Microsoft Video Authenticator” which will analyze photos and videos for providing a percentage chance, confidence score or the media that manipulated artificially. It will be able to give percentage chance in real time for each frame in case of videos.

In simple words, deepfake means videos where visuals are manipulated by the use of AI software. It can also alter audio and images. The new tech by Microsoft will look at the small imperfections in the edge of the deepfaked images that results in grayscale or fading which cannot be noticed by human eye. The tech would also help to flag manipulated content. It will allow content producers like news organizations to affix hashes or a digital watermark in their content. Then the reader, which is a browser extension will check for hashes at digital content and will match them with the original to check if they have got altered.

Microsoft has teamed up with Project Origin, BBC and New York Times to try the new tech. Microsoft stated that as time passes away, deepfakes would become more difficult to be identified easily and for this, they have released this new tech so that no problem arises before the presidential election. Advanced detection technology would be helpful in discerning users who can identify deepfakes.
