Nvidia, the pioneer in making graphical processing units, has unveiled a next-generation desktop-class GPU called NVIDIA Titan V. Yes, this dethrones the GPU hierarchy of NVIDIA GTX TITAN X and gets itself the crown of GPU kingdom. However, one has to take a scribbling note that, the GPU will cost $3000 for the US customers, which makes it the costliest mass produced GPU ever.
The V in the nomenclature stands for VOLTA. According to NVIDIA, this GPU is capable of producing 110 TeraFLOPS of performance with 3D stacked memory and 21 billion transistors. In terms of design and aesthetics, the model looks exactly similar to the Nvidia GTX TITAN X, with a new gold accent.
This GPU is built on a new architecture called NVIDIA Volta, which offers up to 12 GB HBM2 frame buffer with 1455 MHz boost clock. This is the first dedicated GPU with optimised deep learning on NVIDIA GPU Cloud. So, if you are into gaming and exploring AI and VR, this graphics card will offer everything that one can expect, in fact, the performance on this chip cannot be replicated by any other GPU in the market what so ever.
This GPU is based on groundbreaking innovations, which offers up to 640 tensor cores, which can deliver over 100 TeraFLOPS of performance per second. This offers up to 5x improved performance over the Nvidia Pascal GPU architecture, which was used until the last generation Nvidia GPUs.
The next generation NVLINK offers high-speed interconnected technology with parallel data approach for strong scaling to achieve absolute applications performance.
Though the GPU is priced at an all-time high, this is the GPU that changes the way we game, we create, we use our computer. In fact, this card will be future proof at least for three years. Looking at the phase in which technology is moving forwards, 3 years is a light year ahead. If you can pair this GPU with a premium CPU like AMD Ryzon with 32 GB RAM and 512 GB PCIe SSD, this will be the fastest computer ever.
