For several years now PayPal has been a billing option in the billing option in the Play Store, while Android Pay integration arrived last year. Today, the two companies are announcing a deeper integration that makes PayPal available throughout multiple Google apps and services as a new standard payment method.

More details:

The integration will be put into place later this year and will allow you to make PayPal transactions across YouTube, Gmail, Google Store, as well as peer-to-peer payments. Essentially, you’ll be able to use PayPal for any services that use Google Pay.

According to PayPal’s latest blog post:

“Today, we’re extending that partnership to deliver more seamless payment experiences across the Google ecosystem. Soon, users in the U.S. who add PayPal to any one of Google’s services will be able to pay across the Google ecosystem, anywhere that PayPal is offered as a payment method, with only minimal setup.”

As part of this collaboration, users who input their PayPal details into their Google Play accounts will be able to pay their bills and, for other items, be able to use PayPal without logging in or leaving Google’s services.Until now, one had to sign in to their PayPal account every time you wanted to add it as your preferred payment option. This won’t be the case in the near future as linking your PayPal account into one Google service will open it up to all of them. Additionally, you can even use the account for peer-to-peer payments through Google Pay Send (formerly known as Google Wallet)

This new phase of the relationship is interesting for how it benefits both sides. For Google, it will mean that users are less likely to leave Google sites to complete a transaction, potentially never to return; and will give users one more option for how to pay for things, making Google’s own sales more likely to be completed rather than abandoned. For PayPal, it will give users one more easy option for using its rails when buying things, and that will translate into more transaction revenues for PayPal.
