Samsung, one of the biggest silicon manufacturer has started to manufacture (for the first time) the 512 GB flash memory units for smartphones with faster eUFS storage module. So that, next-generation flagship smartphones can utilize the same to get unparallel user-experience. The company has also expanded the production of 256 GB storage module, which is used on the Apple iPhone 8, Apple iPhone 8 Plus, and the Apple iPhone X. Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to offer high-end 512 GB flash storage as well.

These new storage modules will be based on Samsung’s 64-layers 512 GB V-NAND chip, which is the same technology used in the Samsung’s latest SSD modules. As the mobile technologies have come a long way and now we have the capability to capture 4K video recording capability. So, one will be able to store up to 130 4K or UHD videos with 10 minutes length.

These chipsets will be available for the smartphone manufacturers from 2018. Companies like Sony, LG, Samsung, Apple, and Huawei are expected to utilize these newer storage modules on their upcoming flagship smartphone.

Here is the official press statement from Jaesoon Han, Executive Vice President of Memory Sales and Marketing at Samsung Electronics:

“The new Samsung 512GB eUFS provides the best-embedded storage solution for next-generation premium smartphones by overcoming potential limitations in system performance that can occur with the use of micro-SD cards,”

“By assuring an early, stable supply of this advanced embedded storage, Samsung is taking a big step forward in contributing to timely launches of next-generation mobile devices by mobile manufacturers around the world,”

Samsung also commented that:

“For example, the new high-capacity storage enables a flagship smartphone to store approximately 130 4K Ultra HD video clips of a 10-minute duration — which is about a tenfold increase over a 64GB chip which allows storing only about 13 of the same-sized video clips,”
