Samsung’s premium mid-tier smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus (2018) will be up for preorder from 3rd January in South Korea via multiple online platforms. These are the first set of Samsung smartphones, that offers premium tier specifications at a lower price tag than Samsung Galaxy S8 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 series.
The entry-level version of the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) is priced at 599,500 won or $560 American dollars. So, for those who cannot afford Galaxy S8 or the Galaxy Note 8 can go with this smartphone for the premium design and mid-tier specifications. Let’s look at the actual tech specifications of these devices for further analysis.
The only difference between the two models in the screen size and the battery. The original model comes with a 5.6-inch screen whereas the plus variant features bigger 5.99-inch screen. Both smartphones are equipped with a Super AMOLED display with FHD+ 2220x1080p IPS LCD screen with 2.5D curved tempered glass protection on the top. These smartphones feature 18:9 aspect ratio screen with almost no bezel design. These devices run on Exynos 7885 Octa-core processor with 4 GB LPDDR4x RAM and 64 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot (up to 200 GB) with dual SIM card slot that features 4G LTE and VoLte capability on both the SIM card slots.
Another highlight of this device is the dual front-facing selfie camera setup. The smartphone offers dual camera setup with 16 MP and an 8 MP shooter to offer portrait mode and a single 16 MP rear-facing camera with a single tone LED flash. The main camera can record 4K video recording capability. To improve the video stability, the phone features OIS to stabilise the footage and to improve the low light photography.
Everything on aboard is powered by a 3000 mAh sealed battery with fast charging capability via USB type C port and the bigger 3500 mAh Li-ion battery on the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus (2018). The phone does support OTG via USB type C port. Thought the phone features glass back panel, there is no wireless charging capability what so ever.
Other standard connectivity features like Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and support for dual-band WiFi is also included on these smartphones. Samsung is expected to make a global debut on these smartphones next week in CES 2018.
