S9 v/s S9+

The South Korean tech giant Samsung has unveiled its latest flagships S9 and S9+ at Mobile World Congress 2018. The company’s flagship phone incorporates the latest technology and is in direct competition with Apple’s flagship iPhone X. Also, for all the Samsung users who are looking forward to making a choice between Galaxy S9 and S9+, here’s a detailed comparison between both the phones.

Design:

Both the phones are actually similar and much like its predecessor Galaxy S8 and S8+ but feature minor upgrades.The latest Galaxy S9 comes with reduced bezels at the top as well as the bottom, though more reduced and compact bezels can be noticed in S9+.In both the phones, Samsung has hidden the iris scanner. Adding to the plus point, iris scanner and face recognition work together.The screen of the phone has been turned darker, so as to unify it with rest of the body.Galaxy S9 and S9+ come with color options: Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Lilac Purple, and Titanium Grey.

Price:

The price of latest Galaxy S9 smartphone starts at $719.99 (roughly Rs.46,600) in the United States and likely to be available in India by the month of March(pre-bookings are already open).The exact pricing details of the phone in India is yet to be revealed at the Samsung launch event in the country.

Just like the trends noticed in the price range of S8 and S8+, it is expected that Galaxy S9+ will be around $100 costlier than the standard S9 model.

The Samsung’s latest flagship standard Galaxy S9 model comes with a 5.8-inches QHD+ Curved Super AMOLED display with an 18.5:9 display aspect ratio and 1440×2960 screen resolution.It has a pixel density of 570ppi. It works on Android 8.0 Oreo. Talking about the hardware, the phone is powered by a 10nm 64-bit octa-core SoC along with 4GB of RAM. The best thing about the phone is camera/optical quality. The company has made quite a few improvements in this phone that give it an upper hand over other phones available in the market. The Galaxy S9 boasts a SuperSpeed Dual Pixel 12-megapixel autofocus f/1.5-f/2.4 sensor with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization).The phone comes with an 8MP front shooter just like its predecessor. The phone comes with 64/128/256GB storage variants and is expandable up to 400GB via microSD card.

It features IP68 water + dust resistance as well. Connectivity options available in the phone includes: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB type-C, NFC, Location (GPS, Galileo, Glonass, BeiDou), etc. The Galaxy S9 comes with a powerful 3000mAh battery. In terms of dimensions and measurements, it measures 147.7×68.7×8.5mm and weighs 163 grams.

While talking about the specs of the Galaxy S9+, comes with a 6.2-inches QHD+ Curved Super AMOLED display with an 18.5:9 display aspect ratio and 1440×2960 screen resolution. S9+ body is larger from standard S9, taller by 0.4 inches and 0.2 inches wider.It has a pixel density of 529ppi.  It works on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-box. Talking about the hardware, the phone is powered by a 10nm 64-bit octa-core SoC along with 6GB of RAM. The major difference between the standard S9 model and S9+ model is the rear camera setup. Both, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ boasts a SuperSpeed Dual Pixel 12-megapixel autofocus f/1.5-f/2.4 sensor with OIS but only Galaxy S9+ comes with a second 12-megapixel camera with a 2x telephoto lens for zooming in closer to your subject– a perfect delight for shutterbugs! The phone comes with an 8MP front shooter just like S9 and previous models.This phone also comes with 64/128/256GB storage variants and is expandable up to 400GB via microSD card.

Notable Changes:

Both the phones include features like Bixby vision and advanced social media features etc as compared to their predecessors.But, the notable changes between S9 and S9+ is the increased screen size and availability of the dual rear camera setup in the later. Also, extra battery life and added RAM gives S9+ an upper edge over S9. But that also means spending few extra bucks when prices are considered and compared.So, it is completely User’s choice.
