Samsung

In its commitment towards environmental issues, Samsung pledges to use 100 percent renewable sources by 2020. An announcement by the company states that it plans to power its US, Europe and China operations entirely by renewable energy sources in next two year. This will also include all the company’s factories, office buildings and other facilities in US, Europe and China. This will also be the first time that the company has made such a pledge to use clean energy source for its operations.

Work by Samsung towards renewable energy sources:

The company is already working towards its commitment for sustainable energy in Korea. It has already installed solar panels in some of its offices in the country. Currently the company is also installing solar panels in about 42,000 square meters of area in its Digital City. This Diciatal City is located in Suwon city of South Korea. The company is also working towards generating geothermal power in its Pyeongtaek by 2019. It will also be powering its Hwaseong campus by geothermal energy in 2020. In the announcement, Samsung also indicated that it will give some assistance to its top 100 companies. This assistance is meant to help those companies to set up their own renewable energy sources.

The company has constantly been the target of many environmental groups for its lack of commitment towards using clean energy sources. One of the main group that was constantly targeting Samsung was Greenpeace. In a statement issued by Greenpeace after Samsung’s announcement praises the new pledge by the company. It states that the new pledge by Samsung is a major step forward for the movement to build renewable powered future.

Whatever maybe the reason for this pledge by company. It is a very good step taken by Samsung to help protect environment.
